Before you move out
After you give notice, Roost will send you an email and text to help you set up your refund. (Be sure to check your spam folder just in case!)
In the Roost App, you can
- Update your forwarding address
- Choose your refund payment
- Split your refund with roommates
Refund options include:
Instant Refund – Get your money fast (usually within 30 minutes of property approval) via debit card, PayPal, Venmo, or prepaid card (Zippy!).
Direct Deposit (ACH) – A good option if you're not in a rush. Takes 2-3 business days.
Mailed Check – We’ve got that too, but delivery can take 10–14 business days by snail mail. Don’t forget to update your mailing address in the app so it goes to the right place.
Got roommates? Make sure everyone agrees on how the refund should be split. If not, a single check will be issued to all roommates—and that can be difficult to cash. It’s worth taking a minute to get this set up now.
After you've moved out (and haven’t received your refund yet)
If it’s been a while since you moved out and you haven’t received your refund, here’s how to check what’s going on:
1. Check how your refund was sent
- Instant refund: Once approved, it should arrive right away (usually within 30 minutes)
- Direct deposit (ACH): Usually arrives within 2–3 business days after approval
- Mailed check: Can take 10–14 business days to arrive by mail
2. What to do next
- If you chose an electronic option (instant or direct deposit) and don’t have your refund within the expected time, contact Roost support so we can help track it down
- If your refund was sent by mailed check, some delay is normal due to postal delivery times
3. Still don’t have it?
- If it’s been more than 14 days since you were notified your check was sent, contact Roost support and we can help with next steps, including a replacement if needed.
If you need help checking your refund status or accessing your account, Roost support is here to help.
